Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
We offer a complete, turn-key web design service: everything from the domain name registration, hosting, design, publishing of the site to the Web, and registering your new site with the major search engines so that customers can find your products and services online.
Aside from designing sites in pure code, our specialty is in complex, database-driven sites (using PHP and MySQL). WinternetWeb has the skill sets necessary to build sites in CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead of tables, optimizing it for search engines and load time, which is something that most industry-standard web design software programs like Dreamweaver and FrontPage are not able to do.
Here are some of the questions we find that we are asked the most.
(Be sure to also view the
Education page for questions you should ask your web designer.)
What is the process, and what do I need to do?
Often we hear people say, ''I know I need a web site, but I have no idea what to expect.'' So toward making the process easier to understand, below is a list of steps.
1. Contact us and describe whether you are in need of a new site or a redesign of an existing site. Or use our Interactive Quote Builder.
2. Determine the scope of your web design needs, with our help, so that an accurate statement of work (a contract) can be prepared detailing the entire project. The official contract will show the cost upfront so that there are no surprises later after the design process gets underway. Clients have said they appreciate knowing what they are expected to pay. The payment is broken into a one-time design fee and a yearly hosting fee (typically $150). The design fee pays for the time, labor, research, knowledge, skills and related services to customize your site.
3. Sit back. The design phase begins after a deposit is paid (a third of the design fee).
Next, you will be contacted with a link to the proof of your site for your review, comments, and requested changes.
4. After the final revision of the site and the payment of the remaining balance of the design fee, your site is published to the web.
5. Your site is then registered with Google, Yahoo!, and Bing. It is also coded to aid in its search engine rankings, which will improve with time. The longer your web site is on the web and the number of times other web sites link to your site have the largest effect on your search engine ranking.
How long does the process take?
The total web site development time relies on a number of factors: the complexity of your site, how quickly materials are received for its design, and how quickly the review process takes before finalizing the site.
With that said, a reasonable estimate is usually four weeks, plus or minus two weeks.
What does a web site cost?
After reading the sections above, it should be clear that the cost depends on the complexity of the project, much like when building a house.
The majority of sites designed (see examples) fall around an average cost of $1,200 -- of course, at times more or less. The only way to know for sure is to discuss your web design needs with us and find an example of a web site you think models the type of site you need.
Do you maintain web sites?
Yes, we do web site maintenance. Even if we did not design your site, contact us if you need someone to handle its maintenance so that you can better spend your time and energy on your business needs.
Our standard rate (billed monthly) for maintenance, updates, additions, etc. is $60 for up to the first hour. Our rate is $40 for each additional hour, billed incrementally in 15-minute intervals.
